Hoopers is dé nieuwe hondensport in Nederland. Oorspronkelijk komt deze vorm van hondensport uit Amerika. Daar is het ontwikkeld voor honden die nog niet aan Agility (Behendigheid) mee kunnen doen omdat ze te jong zijn of voor de honden die te oud zijn en de lichamelijke belasting niet meer aan kunnen.
Hoopers is een sport met bepaalde fysieke en mentale eisen. De aangepaste hindernissen zorgen voor een minimale lichamelijke belasting voor zowel hond als eigenaar. Dat betekent dat vrijwel elke hond kan meedoen met deze sport en ook vrijwel elke eigenaar kan dit doen.
Van de hond wordt veel denkwerk verwacht, maar ook fysieke uitdaging. Van de eigenaar wordt ook veel denkwerk verwacht, maar het fysieke aspect is voor deze zeer beperkt. En dat betekent dat ook mensen met een lichamelijke beperking toch een hele leuke actieve sport kunnen beoefenen samen met hun hond(en).
